Sri Lanka is one of the premier birdwatching destinations in Asia, with over 230 resident species, including 35 birds found nowhere else in the world, making it a paradise for birders of all levels. The island’s diversity of habitats – tropical rainforests, highland cloud forests, dry-zone scrub, coastal wetlands, and paddy land ecosystems- supports a range of species in a relatively compact area. Iconic endemic species such as the Sri Lankan blue magpie, Serendib scops owl, Sri Lankan spurfowl, and the Sri Lankan junglefowl can be sought on guided walks through Sinharaja, Knuckles, and the highland forests of the Hill Country.
