Set off before dawn for a highland adventure across the plateau of Horton Plains National Park, perched over 2,100 metres above sea level in Sri Lanka’s misty central highlands. This UNESCO-listed wilderness rewards early arrivals with montane grasslands, cloud-forest corridors, and a rich tapestry of endemic flora and fauna, including sambar deer, purple-faced langurs, and rare highland bird species. Your naturalist guide will lead you along the park’s circular trail, building anticipation for the day’s centrepiece: the World’s End escarpment. Arrive at World’s End in the early morning hours to witness one of Sri Lanka’s most natural spectacles: a sheer cliff face plunging nearly 880 metres into the sun-dappled lowland valleys far below. Continue along the trail to Baker’s Falls, a 20-metre cascade nestled within lush forest, before completing the loop and heading to nearby Nuwara Eliya for a well-earned breakfast.
