Day by Day Itinerary

Day

01

Arrival & Negombo Coastal Evening

Touch down at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer effortlessly to the coastal city of Negombo. Watch the day’s last fishing boats return across the lagoon as the sky shifts through orange and pink. Stroll the beach promenade past open-air seafood stalls and local families enjoying the warm evening breeze.

Day

02

Munneswaram & Wilpattu Safari

Begin the wildlife adventure at the atmospheric Munneswaram Hindu Temple before entering the vast Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest reserve and least-visited crown jewel. Spot leopards lounging beside natural lakes called villus, herds of deer, and rare birds in a landscape of deep forest silence.

Day

03

Anuradhapura Sacred City & Minneriya

Discover Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first ancient kingdom with colossal stupas, the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, and vast monastery complexes spanning 2,500 years of civilisation. Continue to Sigiriya for an afternoon jeep safari in Minneriya, where hundreds of elephants gather around the ancient irrigation reservoir.

Day

04

Sigiriya Fortress & Cultural Village Tour

Early morning rewards the climber: ascend Sigiriya Rock through the famous lion-paw gateway to the windswept summit, with its water gardens and panoramic jungle views. Afternoons bring authentic village life, tuk-tuk rides through rice paddies, a canoe glide on village tanks, and a traditional home-cooked Sri Lankan lunch.

Day

05

Spice Gardens & Kandy Evening

Visit Dambulla Cave Temple complex, housing over 150 Buddha images in five chambers of vivid ceiling frescoes. Tour Matale’s fragrant spice plantations with guided tastings. Arrive in Kandy for an evening puja at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and a colourful Kandyan cultural dance show.

Day

06

Gems, Tea Factory & Nuwara Eliya

Morning at Kandy’s Gem Museum reveals the sapphires and rubies that have made Sri Lanka legendary in the gemstone world. Visit Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya before driving into the cool highlands through mist-wrapped tea estates. Tour a working tea factory and explore colonial Nuwara Eliya at your leisure.

Day

07

Scenic Train, Ella & Nine Arch Bridge

One of Asia’s most celebrated railway journeys begins at Nanu Oya. The Ella train winds through tunnels, over spectacular viaducts, and past rolling plantations. Arrive in beloved Ella and visit the Nine Arch Bridge as afternoon light plays across the stone arches. An optional Flying Ravana adventure awaits.

Day

08

Udawalawe Elephant Safari

Travel through scenic dry-zone landscapes with a stop at Ravana waterfall en route to Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka’s premier elephant sanctuary. Here, hundreds of elephants roam open grasslands in plain sight, making it the best park for close-up elephant encounters and dramatic photography in golden afternoon light.

Day

09

Galle Fort & Bentota River Adventure

Drive toward the coast via UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, where Dutch colonial architecture, boutique cafes, and Indian Ocean rampart views converge. Continue to Bentota for an optional turtle hatchery visit and an afternoon on the Madu River, a serene mangrove waterway alive with kingfishers, water monitors, and stillness.

Day

10

Colombo City & Airport Departure

A final morning exploring Colombo: browse local handicraft stores, visit colonial landmarks, and shop for Ceylon tea and cinnamon at speciality boutiques. The drive past Cinnamon Gardens and the Red Mosque offers a last flavour of this vibrant, layered city before your transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport.
